Presenting the Woods Hole Film Festival
What is your film festival’s mission?
The Woods Hole Film Festival, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation was established to organize the annual Festival; form relationships and strategic alliances with other film festivals and organizations to showcase independent film; emphasize the work of emerging and New England filmmakers; showcase the work of independent filmmakers who have a relationship to Cape Cod or whose films are relevant to or enhance the quality of life on Cape Cod and to develop and foster a creative independent film community within the Festival and on Cape Cod. The Festival also works with individuals, businesses and institutions to develop and present programs and events that further its goals.
What role does your film festival play in supporting your film’s community?
We play a major role in supporting the film community of Cape Cod, Massachusetts and New England. We are one of the oldest festivals in the Northeast and play a significant role in supporting independent film in the region.
What is something people look forward to every year at your film festival?
The audience looks forward to seeing the approximately 130 films each year and meeting filmmakers from around the world.
How long has your film festival been around?
We are in our 25th year.
How did your film festival come into being?
I (Judy Laster, Festival Director) founded the Festival along with a filmmaker friend, Kate Davis 25 years ago as a way to showcase independent film and I’ve been presenting the Festival every since.
What do you want audiences to take away from your film festival?
We want people to be amazed and astounded at the great independent film we present that they would not otherwise have an opportunity to see on a screen.
Anything else you’d like to tell the audience about your festival?
It’s Cape Cod in the summer time – which is the best place to be and to go to a film festival.
