INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY CHALLENGE AND FUSION PARTNER FOR SHORT-DOC COMPETITION

The FUSION Doc Challenge is  seeking filmmaking teams to create 4-7 minute documentaries in 5 days. Entries will have the chance to win part of the $20,000 in cash & prizes, the top 12 will  premiere at the Slamdance Film Festival event, and receive exclusive distribution deals with FUSION.

The International Documentary Challenge is once again partnering with FUSION to launch a short documentary challenge that will focus on creating compelling short documentary content for young, diverse audiences.

The International FUSION Documentary Challenge seeks filmmakers from around the world to create short documentaries four to seven minutes in length, in five days. Until August 17, the early bird entry fee is only $50 per team. After August 17, the submission fees gradually increase to $150. Winners will be awarded a total of $20,000 in prizes and cash. An esteemed panel of judges determines the top 12 films and those films will premiere at the FUSION Doc Challenge Slamdance Film Festival event in January 2016. The top 12 will also compete for audience choice in March 2016 at TheAudienceAwards.com. Winners are awarded $3,000 and the top 20 films will receive an exclusive 24-month licensing deal with FUSION. The distribution deal will feature the top 20 winning films across FUSION’s broadcast and digital platforms. The top 12 winning teams receive four all-access Slamdance passes for their teammates and are invited to the Fusion sponsored Slamdance party in downtown Park City, Utah during the festival. The Audience Awards will also give a $150 stipend to the top 12 teams to attend Slamdance. The top 12 films will also screen at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in February 2016.

Filmmaking teams get a chance to choose their five days of competition. Teams have their choice of three dates: October 21-25, October 26-30, or October 29-November 2, 2015 to create their films. On the first day, contestants are given the theme of this year’s challenge and get to choose between two genres.

“I was very fortunate to be a finalist for the previous Fusion Doc Challenge! Going to Slamdance Film Festival and Big Sky Documentary Film Festival changed my life, and the film I competed with is still getting accepted to festivals,” Cody Martin, top 12 filmmaker from the inaugural 2014 Fusion Doc Challenge.

“We know that millennials are smart, curious and creative —and the best way to showcase that is by allowing them to showcase themselves,” FUSION CEO, Isaac Lee said. “By partnering with the International Documentary Challenge, we can engage with our audience while holding up the best they have to offer for their peers worldwide to see.”

Doc Challenge Executive Producer Paige Williams commented, “The International Documentary Challenge and The Audience Awards are proud to partner once again with FUSION to expand our trusted brand and create more opportunities for emerging filmmakers through FUSION Doc Challenge. One of our main goals is to provide talented young filmmakers great opportunity to advance their careers. A premiere at Slamdance and television exposure through FUSION is the perfect match for moving The Doc Challenge into the next decade.”
