Meet the Winning Filmmakers in the FIRST EVER 8K Video Contest by DELL
DELL asked the Audience Awards community to show the world the beauty of 8K footage in the DELL 8K Neighborhood Video Contest. The top five films flaunt the places, activities, and people that make a neighborhood a home.
The first place winning film, BAVARIAN NEIGHBORHOOD by Daniel Bichler will make you want to pack up and pay a visit to Bavaria, featuring aesthetic shots of vast farmland, craft beers, and wildlife.
Bichler explained his motivation behind the film,
Bavaria is our place to live. Bavaria is our love. From stunning nature to passionate people, who enjoy their craftsmanship. This is our neighborhood!
In second place is Manfred Bauling’s film, Balulig 8K which follows a few of the people in his neighborhood as they strum through the environment of their everyday life. Although a seemingly simple approach, Bauling managed to create a 60-second film filled with breathtaking cinematography and a message that will leave your heart happy.
In third place, it’s not every day we look down at London’s skyline, however, filmmakers Andrej Srebrnjak and Frederico Rea brought us this unique perspective of the city in their film, London- The City.
This elegant film was constructed using a helicopter, a Red Weapon Helium 8K camera with an Angenieux 25-250mm DP Zoom Lens and a Shotover F1 gyro stabilized head.
The films in this contest were so strong that we would like to brag about the two honorable mention films. Here they are below.
Aaron Nanto’s film, Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is a glimpse into the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Washington state with cinematography so crisp, you will feel like you are physically walking the tulip gardens.
Nanto is no rookie when it comes to high-resolution filmmaking. After shooting close to 100 4K videos in the past year, Nanto felt it was finally time to take the next step into 8K filmmaking and invested in the RED Epic-W 8K cinema camera.
Nanto gave us some insight into his film and explained,
The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival occurs every year in Washington state, which features huge fields of tulips in many different colors as far as the eye can see which presented the perfect opportunity to break in my 8K camera. With clear skies and camera at the ready, I was able to capture the amazing colors of the tulips, people and ambiance of this fun festival!
Ever wondered what a day in Hong Kong might be like? Wonder no more thanks to Tak Chun Cheung’s film, Hong Kong Day and Night. Cheung’s film is pieced together using 8K time-lapses to bring you a “day in the life” perspective of the city of Hong Kong.
When asked about the making of his film, Cheung said,
Hong Kong is a special city with both a modern and old side, high population and a small amount of land. Time-lapse can show that when Hong Kong changes from day to night, so do the people and their activities. Like a non-stop city.
A huge thanks to our community of creatives and filmmakers who submitted, and hearty congratulations to the winners!
